“Olà” from PORTUGAL!

I’m thrilled to be back at the Guimarães Home Fashion Week (which starts today and runs through April 8)!

After being away for three long years, it’s truly a joy to be seeing in person my lovely colleagues at the show and my partner mills – where many of TL at Home’s most naturally luxurious bedding collections are expertly crafted.

Happily, my agenda is booked solid with appointments, factory meetings & lunches and dinners. I’m very busy! But I’m also very much enjoying these opportunities to spend quality time with TL at Home’s valued vendors.

My husband, Travis, came along with me and we’ve carved some personal time later this week to visit nearby Porto. We’ll be staying at a charming “pousada” (or inn) and enjoy the breezy oceanside vistas, explore the town’s historic sights and dine on fresh-caught seafood at some of the locals’ favorite restaurants.

Senior Trade Officer Maria da Graça Freitas of the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (which assists show organizer Portuguese Home Textiles Association @HomefromPortugal) had these kind words to share:

“We have known Shari for a long time, and we value the appreciation that she has shown for the Portuguese home textile industry. It means a lot to us that Shari has been able to establish long lasting relationships with Portuguese manufacturers, which attest both to her pursuit of high-quality products and the assurance that she can depend on Portuguese companies to achieve her goals.”

Muito obrigado, Maria!

CREATING CHARISHED MEMORIES- ONE STITCH AT A TIME

Recently, I took my first class in needle felting at a local shop near my new home.

In case you aren’t sure what needle felting is, it’s a transitional crafting art form in which wool is transformed into 3D objects using a barbed needle. In felting wool, you are agitating its fibers so they bond together to create a solid fabric that depicts a pattern or design of your choice.

Many of my favorite Christmas ornaments are needle-felted – which is why when I heard about the class I was eager to join in.

My teacher was great, very hands-on and helpful, sharing her knowledge and technique as well as some DIY books. On her instruction, I decided on a reference image to get me started. My base was a piece of stretched wool. I then layered it with other small pieces that I ultimately assembled into my own interpretation of my oceanfront lawn. (See top left image)

I’m so happy with my accomplishment that I’m framing it to hang it in my new house.

The experience of learning and creating was so much fun. It gave me joy to be in a class with others, working on a project and creating something with my hands using a fiber that I’m so familiar with in my own life and career.

Last month, I got to pass along that joy to my sister Elyse and her husband Shane when they came for a visit to see our new house. I seized the opportunity to put to good use my newly acquired skills, and gave them a mini lesson so they could create something to take home. I think their creations look amazing.

This image shows their joint results – hers the top, inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night; his below it, inspired by the view to our property.

The best part: These handmade pieces will serve as reminders of our weekend together.

FLASHBACK, FLASH FORWARD

Meet Lily, a beloved new addition to The Klines!

A cuddly young pup, only about three years old, has been with us now for just a couple of weeks. And yet she feels like she’s always been a part of the fabric of our family.

And we just discovered why.

My husband, Travis, just stumbled upon this painting by his late grandmother, Wanda Boyce. She was Pam’s mom and an accomplished artist whose works grace much of our home. Wanda seems to have captured here our Lily (an English Pointer) and dear Poppy (an English Setter) out on an adventure — hunting, no doubt!

What Wanda could not have known then, of course: Lily and Poppy (also coincidentally both named after flowers) actually prefer spending their energies catching up on Zzzzzzs.

We’re so happy to have made this serendipitous discovery that we’re framing it to hang the painting in our living room with some of Wanda’s other works we inherited + other family art created by Pam, Travis, our boys Gavin and Tait and even me!

In honor of Wanda, TL at Home has a customer-favorite coverlet + sham collection called BOYCE.

Made of all-natural linen and cotton, our Boyce matelassé is in our signature stonewashed construction and depicts a classic diamond motif expressed in heathered color.

Designed for the four seasons, Boyce feels comfortable all year round and comes is equally versatile colorways — Ivory, Sky and Terra.

BOYCE is IN-STOCK + READY TO SHIP from our Hudson, NY warehouse.

Shop BOYCE under our “Coverlets” tab here on our website, or contact your CODARUS territory sales manager to place an order.

RETAILER PROFILE: PARKSIDE LINEN

Parkside Linen is “resolutely a brick-and-mortar establishment.”

So says owner Shandon Whistler, adding: “We do not do e-commerce.”

If a customer wants something from the upstairs home textiles and accessories boutique, “they can call us up on the phone, and we will send it over – anything they want that we offer.”

It’s the way Shandon successfully runs her longtime business, based in Indianapolis, IN. “We like to do one bed at a time, one table at a time. We’re very intentional about what we do.”

She goes on: “At Parkside Linen, we are considered experts at making beds. We create a sleep system for our customers from the mattress up, literally.”

Parkside carries Vispring mattresses, which are handmade in England, as the foundation of their sleep assortment – “and then we go from there,” she explained.

That means a robust offering of “wonderful down bedding products from many different sources” PLUS a variety of luxury linens.

TL at Home is proudly part of the product mix.

Shandon raves about TL’s bedding selection, which she described as broad and “all good! I can’t say enough of TL at Home. It’s a company that offers great products and the greatest service. That is their hallmark. If they don’t have something you need, they’ll help you find an alternative. They care and work hard to solve your problem.”

And our sampling, she stresses, “is wonderful! For a small store like ours, nice samples are hugely important, and Shari offers great samples.”

Thanks so much, Shandon! We ♥ ParksideLinen, too!

2022 = A Perfect 10

Happy New Year!

January is off to a humming start with three back-to-back major trade shows this month, alone – Dallas Total Home + Gift, Atlanta Market + Las Vegas Market – on our agenda.

And thank goodness for that!

Turning the page on a fickle year filled with starts and stops, we are fixated on forging ahead. We’ve become experts at adapting, adjusting, overcoming….When hiccups happen, we don’t hold our breath – we inhale, exhale and…prevail.

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2022 is the year of the 🐅Tiger🐅 – a symbol of strength and courage.

Similarly, color authority Pantone calls Very Peri its ✨2022 Color of the Year✨ for the purplish hue’s “courageous presence [which] encourages personal inventiveness and creativity.”

So empowering 💟

…Which brings me closer to home: 2022 also represents a major milestone for me, as it marks my 10th ANNIVERSARY as the proud owner of TL at Home. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Whatever this year may bring, I’m ready and willing.

With 💜 love,

Shari

Holiday Lunch with Team TL

We’re so thankful for our dedicated team at TL at Home!

In gratitude for their hard work and in celebration of this season, we recently invited our staff to a gourmet, farm-to-table lunch at Local 111, where we were treated to specially prepared meal by Chef Josephine Proul.

You might recall she is a winner on Food Network’s Chopped – plus she was named Best Chef in Columbia County in 2015 + 2016, and was the 2013 recipient of the fourth annual Victoria A. Simons Locavore Award.

Toni-Anne, who heads our staff and customer service department, organized the lunch with restaurant owner + Chef “Jo”. Local 111 serves locally sourced New American fare & regional wines “in a laid-back space built from an old garage.”
The restaurant doesn’t typically serve lunch. But Chef Jo was kind enough to open for us for this private, 15-person event – and it was wonderful! The meal was very special! Among the many highlights: A mocktail from yuzu and cherries.
And each employee received a year-end gift.
We also invited Peggy Woodford’s husband, Dale, so the party served double-duty as a warm send-off to her as she prepares to embark on a new adventure. Our resident jill-of-all-trades Peggy is retiring from TL at Home after more than 19 years on our staff, adeptly working in many different capacities.
🤍We’ll miss you, Peggy🤍
